Toledo State Hospital Annual Memorial 2023

Save the date! May 20, 2023, at 11 a.m.

 

This year’s Toledo State Hospital Memorial will be held May 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. Each year this event is held to honor the memory of the nearly 2000 people who died at Toledo State Hospital and who were without family or friends to care for their remains. These patients were buried in the two cemeteries on the former hospital grounds, which are now located on property owned by the University Of Toledo. Among them are at least 85 veterans.

The event will kick off at 11 a.m. In the “old” cemetery, located on Arlington Avenue next to Bowsher High School, with a formal service that will include military honors.  At the end of this service, those who wish to may travel the short distance to the “new” cemetery, located on E. Medical loop of the University Of Toledo Health Science Campus, for a second but brief service to recognize the veterans buried there as well.  Following the services, a reception with a light lunch will be held.  The location of the reception will be announced during the event.  The event is free, but donations are appreciated.
